Variations on "All The Things You Are"
As explained in the last video, an exercice i like to practice is to come up with as many versions as possible of the same few bars of a standard tune.
This time, i'd like to share with you some ideas on "All the Things You Are"...
You all know the chord progression to this tune:
Fm7 / Bbm7 / Eb7 / Ab7M / Db7M / G7 / C7M / % / etc...
I wrote for you the first four "variations" with tabs.
In the first one , i use chords derived from E major (or E minor melodic since the 3rd is not played) on the Eb7.
Some quartal harmony on the final C7M chord
In the second one, i use a classic upward motion moving stepwise on each degrees( with some diminished chords). Fm7- Gm7- Ab7M- A°7 etc...
In measure 4,I play Am7 D7 instead of the original Ab7M (Ab7M--->Ab7--->D7(subV) )
In variation 3, i pretty much use the same ideas as before using chord inversions, diminished passing chords, chromatic approach etc...
In variation 4, the interesting concept is in bar 3: i use chords derived from E major instead of E melodic minor (= Eb altered scale).
well, you can now listen to the remaining 21 " variations" and tell me which one you like most.
I will transcribe it for you!
Enjoy!
