Working with a metronome/Jonathan kreisberg line
I was talking to a former student of mine the other day, who was telling me what he was practicing these days as far as rythm is concerned.
It reminded me of a transcription i had made of one of Jonathan Kreisberg's lines on "Falling Grace"
Pretty tricky isn't it? So what is it all about?
Well, the idea is to take a new subdivision of the beat (3 eighth notes in this case) as a new beat on which you can play any rythm.
Let me explain: here , the" new" beat is a dotted quarter note on which J.K. plays quintuplets.
So that can lead to numerous exercices where you can try to play two ,four, five notes on top of the dotted quarter note, while the metronome plays the regular beat( which is half notes in the video, since we usually count half time when playing jazz)
